Pulling a Fast-Track One New Jersey Governor Takes Tricks from Bush's Book New Jersey Gov. James McGreevey (D) was thought to be a friend of the environment and environmentalists -- until he signed a sweeping piece of legislation last month that gives developers fast-track access to 1.5 million acres in the state. As troubling as the legislation is, the way it was enacted -- written behind closed doors with no input from enviros, rushed through the legislature, signed quietly -- is even more alarming, as it suggests that Bush's underhanded tactics are catching on around the country.
