Protests Planned for Bush
By Times staff report
Two groups announced Tuesday that they plan to protest at today’s President Bush rally at LeClaire Park along the Mississippi River in Davenport. The Sierra Club will rally beginning at 9:30 a.m. to highlight Bush’s failure to protect Iowa communities from air and water pollution, club members said. America Coming Together, or ACT, will set up a Halliburton lemonade stand at LeClaire Park that will open before Bush’s visit. In the spirit of Halliburton, ACT will offer Halliburton lemonade at $45 a cup, or 2 cups for $100, said Jeff Link, ACT Iowa director said. “Our lemonade stand is intended to mimic the outrageous business tactics used by Halliburton for defense contracts,” Link said. “The difference is that our proceeds will go toward defeating an administration that condones such practices.”
